Energy Star Program

Wendy Reed - Energy Star Program

Posted by Administrator on November 27th, 2006

Since 1992, the EPA Energy Star Program has been leading the way in helping consumers realize the advantage of using energy efficient products. Using these products will help you save energy which saves money and is good for the environment. Results are already adding up. Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved enough energy in 2005 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 23 million cars — all while saving $12 billion on their utility bills.

ESN talks to NREL on Bio-Fuels

George Douglas - NREL - Part 3 (Bio-Fuels)

Posted by Administrator on November 11th, 2006

In our final show on the series at the National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL) we visit with George Douglas, Media Relations Manager and learn about Bio-Fuels.

NREL

Biomass is plant matter such as trees, grasses, agricultural crops or other biological material. It can be used as a solid fuel, or converted into liquid or gaseous forms, for the production of electric power, heat, chemicals, or fuels. By integrating a variety of biomass conversion processes, all of these products can be made in one facility, called a biorefinery. NREL is working to develop cost effective, environmentally friendly biomass conversion technologies to reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil, improve our air quality, and support rural economies. Learn more about biomass.

Energy Laboratories - www.energylaboratories.com

Visit them online at: www.energylaboratories.com

Energy Laboratories is an incubator of energy technologies that have the potential to become a near term disruptive technology. Developing its technologies in-house, Energy Laboratories has hit 8 home runs with all its supported technologies becoming successful, viable companies.

Here's the story of Energy Laboratories by Energy Industries:

In its work, the engineers of Energy Industries were discovering innovative concepts for new systems, processes or products that could help our customers achieve their energy and environmental goals.

Most of the time, these ideas were discovered in the path of a looming deadline. To focus on the project at hand, Energy Laboratories was designed as a place where ideas could be stored and incubated until commercially viable.

Our process...

Darren T. Kimura, founder of Energy Industries was awarded a wood boat for an entrepreneurship award many years ago. This boat was an "Outrigger Canoe", similar to what the Polynesians used to sail to the Islands of Hawaii.

The Outrigger Canoe was the transport vehicle for the most adventurous. The Polynesians used Outrigger Canoes to travel, for exploration and for discovery.

As our engineers developed great ideas we felt it was very appropriate to put them in Darren's Outrigger Canoe. As we find breaks between projects, we circulate the Canoe, pick an idea and work on furthering the development.

Today, Energy Labs actively incubates over 20 different energy concepts and graduated 8 ideas into viable multimillion dollar companies. All our companies are operating today, providing for jobs and economic development each local economy. The Canoe is still our icon for discovery.
